antitrustitalia’s 43rd lunch talk is scheduled on Thursday, 22 February 2018 at Confindustria Bruxelles (Av. de la Joyeuse Entrée 1 – 1040 Bruxelles – Metro Schuman).
Thomas Kramler, Head of the Digital Single Market Task Force responsible for the e-commerce sector inquiry in the European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition, will give a presentation in English on:
“Online sales in the EU after the Coty judgment”
The European Commission’s sector inquiry findings helpfully addressed a number of areas which have for some time been in a state of flux – notably, the extent to which suppliers can rely on their brand image to restrict who sells their products online, or whether they can ban the resale of their products through online marketplaces. The debate on these topics has caused uncertainty for companies trading online in Europe. The Court of Justice’s judgment in Coty was eagerly awaited by companies and legal practitioners across Europe, as it was expected to provide welcome clarity on these issues. Thomas’ presentation will discuss the findings of the Court and will explore their relevance for companies’ distribution policies.
Thomas Kramler is Head of the Digital Single Market Task Force responsible for the e-commerce sector inquiry in the European Commission’s DG Competition. Thomas holds a law degree and a PhD from the University of Vienna, Austria, and a master in European Legal Studies from the College of Europe (Bruges). Previously, Thomas was deputy head of the unit responsible for antitrust cases in the information industries, internet and consumer electronics sectors. Before joining the European Commission, Thomas worked as agent representing the Austrian government before the European Courts in Luxemburg.
Lunch will be provided at 12:30, the presentation will begin at 13:00 and will close at 14:30.
